Topping's first display model (1943) is said to be of the Grumman built (over 12K) , carrier based fighters.... The US Navy's , F6-F-3 "Hellcat" with approximately 1,500 models being made. The model we are offering measures : 12 1/2" wing span and 10" long, overall in good condition for over 75 years old. There seems to be no typical warping of the wings, there is a slight bend to the props. It does have typical scratches and a lot of dust.
Decals are fair to good. It has not been cleaned up. It does not have its original base, but does have the 3 original props with the metal spinner. Another unusual item on this model , not common to Topping Models... Is the nose art (decals) on the cowling. It resembles the US Navy's "Cruiser Scouting Squadron" Insignia, VCS-6 Fish? Scouting Squadrons were assigned to aircraft carriers like the USS Enterprise.
(see Midway & Pearl Harbor). Additional information on Topping Models, (now Precise Models LLC) the US Navy's Hellcats and Scouting Squadrons can be found on the internet. A unusual addition to any aviation display model or Navy "Hellcat" collection. PUT THEM IN YOUR CART.
