This is a model of unknown scale of the AIM-4D, one of several different Falcon short range air-to-air missiles developed by Hughes Aircraft for the U. It had a range of 6 miles, a maximum speed of Mach 4, a conventional warhead, and an infrared homing unit for guidance. The missile saw limited service in the 1960s. I assume the model is from the era, as this would have been made in limited numbers to be given as gifts to the project team members at Hughes and the Air Force. An example of this model is on. Display in the James S. McDonnell Space Hangar at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA. This model is in excellent shape for its age, with small areas of color loss on the wingtips.
This would be a great addition to a collection or as a gift for the military or missile/aviation enthusiast.
