Erich "Bubi" Hartmann was a WWII German fighter pilot and earned the designation as the most successful "ACE". N 30 months of fighting, he flew 1,425 combat missions and crashed 16 times but never wounded.Awarded Germany's highest military decoration the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds. He spent 10 years in Russian prison camps and was released in 1955.
