Base is weighed with a dense white chalk type material (photo 6). It appears this Junkers 290 was painted at some point but is now down to the base metal material. Model appears to have had propellers originally but these are missing. There is slight distortion on the right tail assembly (viewed from the front) - see photos, and this may been caused by heat and a combination of storage etc. As mentioned the base is molded with the aircraft itself. This aircraft model came from the estate of a US soldier who fought in WWII, and who acquired this desk top model sometime in 1945. The model represents the Ju-290 A-5 / A-6 / A-7 aircraft which was the transport version with no gun turrets etc. One Junkers 290 aircraft was assigned to the Adolf Hitler's Fliegerstaffell des Fuehrers sometime in 1944 and flown by Hans Baur (Chief Pilot & Commander of the special flight), but the aircraft was damaged beyond repair in a bombing raid.
Other Ju-290's were assigned to Lufthansa in the same time period. Another Ju-290 went to Spain post 1945. I'm almost certain this desk top model was only produced in very limited numbers as I can find no reference to it on-line. In addition it was probably only given to the most senior staff in the Luftwaffe or possibly Lufthansa during the wartime period, including Hans Baur. With the correct professional attention this rare Ju-290 could be a great display model.
